So what's your song?

The last post would not be complete without a little discussion about the oh-so-important first dance song. Some couples seem to agonize over this decision. Did or do you? Do you and your husband or fiance really have "a song"? What was or is your first dance song? I'd love to know. Really. I'm nosey like that. Leave me a comment and fill me in.

we have a song, ben folds "the luckiest", but i'm not entirely sure we're going to use it as our first dance song. other considerations have been chantal kreviazuk "feels like home", tyrone wells "hold on", and dave barnes "on a night like this".

We couldn't decide which song to pick so we played snippets of all four. Our BM wrote out a cute little intro and explanation that we didn't have ONE song we had many that meant different things to us and then did a segway in between each song snippet(which lasted approximately 30 seconds each)SO it was more of a story that was told. Two songs were slow and two were fast. We had everyone's attention since it wasn't the usual 3 minute song of just us swaying back and forth :)

We have 3 "our songs". The first will be a live instrumental version of "Bless the Broken Road" as I walk down the aisle.
Our first dance song is Ronan Keatin's "When you say nothing at all." I hate that it is one of those songs thats listed as a common first dance song, because it really is our song. Notting Hill is "our movie" (if a couple can have such a thing) and, mind you, HE is the one who showed me the movie. =) We watched it together and on the phone (we were long distance for the first 18 months of our relationship), it became our movie and our song.
And after watching my brother get married and doing the "middle school sway" for 3 minutes... we are taking dance lessons!
And then we are having a last dance song b/ we our 3rd song is Great Big Sea's "Sea of No Cares." A fantastic, but somewhat upbeat not ceremony, and not 1st dance able songs. So we are having a last dance too!

nothing original: U2 Sweetest Thing.
BUT we had the jazz combo at our reception play a more bossa nova styling of it.

Fortunately, our decision was easy because we already had a song that we considered 'our song.' We are dancing to "Dream a Little Dream," which is our song because when we were first dating in college, I made him dance with me in the aisle at Walmat at 1:00 in the morning as it played over the Muzac. ;)

My fiance and I are struggling with this a little.... we have 3 songs as well.... I think that we have decided that I will walk down the aisle to "Moon River" but we are having trouble deciding between the next two (Jason Mraz "Prettiest Friend" and Depeche Mode "Somebody")... I believe that the way that we are going to settle it is by having a last dance as well... while the coordinator is getting everyone assembled outside for our "departure" we are going to have one last dance with just the two of us (which I think is the best way because I have fears of the first dance with everyone looking onward)

'Your Song' by Elton John.

this is hard...
but i think it will be
sigur ros instrumental-processional
third finger left hand, by martha and the vandellas- recessional

and first dance, thats how strong my love is-the creation version, not otis redding.

although I was going to use moon river until my sisters friends volunteered to play violins and harp for the processional.

"the luckiest" by ben folds was the first dance at my friends wedding, not a single dry eye in the place.

we chose our first dance song the day of the wedding. it was sara smile by hall & oates. it may seem a weird choice, given my name isnt sara, but there is a reason! i had a few songs picked out - songbird, eva cassidy - she, elvis costello and im not sure what else, but it was the first line of sara smile that made my husband go "that one!" i have all this baby hair around my temples and my husband always messes with it and when he heard the line "baby hair with a woman's eyes" he knew that was it. i dont even think he knew the name of the song or that it was about sara. im so proud of him that he recognizes it every time we hear it on the radio.

Ours was "Swallowed in the Sea" by Coldplay. We love them and there were lots of tears in the room. It was perfect. So glad we chose it.

This was a tough question for my fiance and I to face, only because we both love music so, so much. Our first song will be "Each Day Gets Better" by John Legend. It's upbeat, and a little dancy. Hopefully everyone will clap their hands. My bridesmaids and I will be walking down the aisle to, "Love and Some Verses" by Iron and Wine. It's folky and has an undeniable rhythm to it. Although I've also thought about, "Song in the Air" by Elliott. I think we will walk out to "So Alive" by Ryan Adams and if I'm lucky, I would like to dance a last dance to, "One True Vine" by Wilco. I think I may have made up the last dance tradition just so I could put that song in there.

Good topic!

We did Bob Marley "Is This Love" for two reasons. 1. It wasn't very long and 2. Who doesn't love Bob Marley?

Our song: You You You You You by The 6th (now known as Magnetic Fields)
Parent dance: In My Life by The Beatles
Garter toss: Lex by Ratatat

Our processional will be our friend playing Man in Me by Dylan and then Walk the Line by Cash (singing both way slowed down and with a ukulele). It's going to be awesome!
