Where has this summer gone? It seems that I was just packing to go on vacation and already the summer seems to be fading as quickly as it came. The last couple of months have been hectic, to say the least. Between the numerous trips have been a series of personal and family pressures that have quite obviously taken their toll on this little blog. For those of you still reading, I thank you sincerely. I will be taking the next few weeks off officially to try to catch up and focus on my family and what is truly most important in this life. I will return shortly hopefully brimming with new ideas and fresh wedding and party planning inspiration. Hopefully you will still be here to share them with me. Take care and remember to enjoy every day.

A case of the blogger blahs

Since returning from Costa Rica I have been suffering from a bout of the blogger blahs. I've felt unmotivated and uninspired. My reader is backed up to about 850 posts. I'll be back, I promise. I haven't really been much for participating in these "tags" lately, but this one just seemed so appropriate given the last few posts. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am no music snob. I truly enjoy almost any type of music. Yes, even country. That's right, I said it. And while I can appreciate all of the technical, music person's music that my drummer husband forces upon me, what I really want to do is sing. Let me tell you I can belt it out in my car with the best of them. You know the scene, you pull up to a stop light only to see the girl next to you singing at the top of her lungs and waving her arms around like nobody's business. That's me. And let me assure you, I am not singing in any key you would recognize.

Oh, and I've been officially banned from singing any of these while my husband is in the car. He just can't appreciate my talent.

What were "our songs" you ask?

I realize in my haste to know what all of your songs were, I forgot to mention the music that helped make our day so memorable. As you may, or may not know, I fell in love with a musician. A musician, but not a dancer. I, on the other hand, feel no wedding is complete without "Baby Got Back" and more than just a few Neil Diamond dance numbers. It seems that my music taste is just a bit more, shall we say "varied" than that of my husband. Sure, I love to listen to Pavement, but I most certainly do not want to dance to it all night long! This was a wedding, not a party for a bunch of music-snobs. And so a compromise was reached- Gabe chose all of the dinner music (he literally handed the DJ a CD with an hour and a half of music so that everything was played in the order he wanted) and I got to choose all of the dance music. And so mixed in with all of the Stereolab, Wilco, Air, and Tortoise came a little Allison Krauss, Sir MixAlot, and Vanilla Ice. I like to think that there was a little something for everyone.

And of course, there were those special songs. The ones that we chose knowing that they would never be heard on the radio, knowing that most of our guests had probably never heard of them. The ones that we have to make the effort to listen to and that instantly bring us back every time we do. We walked out of our ceremony to Johnny and June Carter Cash's barely recognized "'Cause I Love You" and we danced our first dance to Nick Drake's "Northern Sky". We didn't choose songs that we had always listened to together or had our first kiss to, rather we chose songs that would be made special because of their role in our wedding. We have a lot of songs that remind of us all of our years together, but we only have two that can take us back to that particular time. Keep that in mind as you argue about this decision with your fiance. Do you really want the same song that twelve other guests at your wedding danced their first dance to? I didn't think so.

Baby showers are probably one of my favorite parties to throw. Sure, the mom-to-be may register for outlet covers and crib sheets, but the most fun gifts are those that are more unique and creative, those that maybe mom wouldn't necessarily buy for herself. Cute blankets and burp cloths just don't seem to rank up there on the priority list with bottles that don't leak and diaper genies, but they certainly are a welcomed and appreciated gift. With this in mind, Cousins Baby Couture was born. OK, maybe I am a bit biased as this little company belongs to my sister and cousin, but the blankies are so cute and cozy they almost make want to have a little one of my own. Almost.

Ann Taylor, really?

I am not an Ann Taylor girl. Oh, I have nothing against it, it's just that it does not suit my particular style. That being said, I was rather impressed when I came across their limited line of bridal gowns. They've been doing bridesmaid dresses for a couple of years, but I had no idea you could also find a wedding gown for as little as $600. Oh, and they are 20% off right now. Make that $480. For that price you could afford to spend more on your accessories to pull the look together. Just one more way a bride can find a simple, yet pretty dress without spending a fortune or going to one of those "Costco-esque, get 'em in, get 'em out, sell them a gown" kind of gown shops.

This weekend gave me a chance to catch up on a couple of projects I've been working on. I packaged up some cutom mailing labels I designed for Christine of CVD Custom Invitation Studio and I finished designing and assembling some baby shower invites for my sister Sarah of Cousins Baby Couture. Though I haven't yet settled on a design for the labels for the invites, I must say that I am thrilled with the amount of work I actually accomplished on such a perfect weekend.

The next couple of months are filled with kids' birthday parties. Try as I might, it's simply not as easy as one might think to make Darth Vader creative and crafty. Trust me, the nephews do not want my hand designed version of Darth on an invitation, nor do they find little light saber place cards or homemade Chubacca piñatas charming. Nope. Somehow those things just don't fly past the age of four. One trip to Party City is all they really want. If they only knew. If they only understood how much I would love to use some of the handmade, tragically cute decorations I found at Mahar Dry Goods.

It was 95 degrees today. Yes, 95 degrees on the coast. I'm melting and all of my plants and flowers are looking a little, well, wilty to say the very least. My containers of succulents, however, are loving this little heat spell. As I sit here sweating in front of my fan, I can't help but feel a bit of inspiration. How lovely would a modern Summer wedding or perhaps a fiesta-inspired reception be using a blend of eco-friendly cacti and succulents as centerpieces? This is a budget-friendly option as well as all of these arrangements could be assembled at home months before the wedding (or if you want them to look as spectacular as these, contact Succulent in Los Angeles.) With colors ranging from the obvious greens and sages to the less expected reds, yellows, and purples, I think this might be a plan I need to execute. And soon. Any volunteers?

I receive countless emails daily from retailers and designers asking me to post about their products. Needless to say, I am usually left less than impressed or inspired. Trina from Gryphon Stationers, however, threw me for a loop. The quality and range of invitations and stationery on her site are beautiful. I had three flower girls. THREE. (Though only two actually made it down the aisle). I really thought that finding their dresses would be easy. Needless to say, I was wrong. Oh yes, there were a ton of choices, but some of them cost more than a small fortune. It all came down to the fact that there was no way I could ask my cousin to pay not only for her bridesmaid dress but also TWO flower girl dresses at $250 each. And the lesser priced alternatives? They looked, well, lesser. Had this one been around at the time, this most definitely would have been my pick.

As no guest should ever leave a party without a favor, I am always on the lookout for companies that offer clever, custom packaging solutions that don't fall into the category of tacky or cheesy (easy to find in this business). I can't imagine anything you would need to package for a party that you couldn't find a container for at this site.

OK, this last one is obviously not a product for sale, but it is Karen's home office. Oh, to have a ribbon wall such as that!

No, there is not actually a trunk at a trunk show

Well I made it home from the Erin Cole trunk show in Orlando this weekend at Solutions Bridal. After 12 hours in airplanes and airports and missing a connection in Atlanta, I am finally home and in one piece. Barely. But I digress. What I really want to talk about is the purpose for this little jaunt across the country. I realize that not all of you know what a trunk show is and, as I have experienced time and time again, you may not want to ask. So let me give you the scoop. After all, that is what I am here for in the first place.

The term "trunk show" is used in all aspects of design, be it clothing, accessories, paper products or furniture. You see, most stores, or bridal salons, in my case, only carry a certain number of pieces by any one designer. Therefore, when you fall in love with a designer gown and go to a salon that supposedly carries that designer, you may not actually find the gown. During a trunk show, however, the designer will send out their entire collection (originally sent in trunks, hence the name), allowing brides an opportunity to try on and order gowns that are not usually available at that store. Often times the designer will come to the show or send a representative (that's me for Erin Cole) to help the brides have a uniquely personal experience. At this time it is also quite common for a designer to make special custom changes to a piece at a nominal cost as well as offer a discount on any gown or accessories ordered during the show.
That being said, I have some "dos"and "don'ts" if you should ever find yourself at one of these events.

DO
-DO make an appointment - In order to insure that you will be able to have the full experience this is a must. Typically any couture bridal salon will require an appointment to try on gowns or accessories. Trust me, it is for your own good. No bride wants to feel rushed. And no bride with an appointment wants to feel neglected.

-DO come prepared to purchase - This is the time to make a decision. Not only will you receive a discount, but the gown or hair accessories you love may not make their way back to the store for another year or so. Once they are gone, they are gone. If you have no intention of purchasing, just come in as a walk-in. There is no harm in that. You can still come in for a looksie even if you know you are not ready to purchase.

-DO your homework - Research the designer's line. Do you really love it? Do you know the price point? Have you tried on other gowns or accessories so you have a basis for comparison? Will there actually be a designer or a rep there or are they just sending the line?

DON'T
-DON'T criticize the designs - You would be amazed at how many brides along with their entourage will make rude comments when the designer is standing right there. Seriously. I had a bride this weekend tell me that something looked "cheap" and something else was "kind of ugly". That's just rude. What if the bride right next to you has just fallen in love with that very piece?

-DON'T waste time - Now, I don't mean to sound rude here. If you are just starting and you want to get a feel for a designer, that is understandable. But please don't spend an hour and a half with your bridal consultant and the designer only to say at the end, "Oh, I was just playing today, I have no plans of purchasing. Oh, and by the way, I'm not actually engaged yet. But it is coming. I just know it." Right.

-DON'T complain about pricing - Sure, some things are pricey, but to complain about price in front of a designer is down right rude. I'm sorry, but it is. With all of the resources available, there is no need to be completely clueless when you walk into a salon. I cannot tell you many how many times I have had a first time bride say they had absolutely no idea how much things cost. Really? No idea? How is that possible? Couture and custom gowns, veils, and jewelry are expensive. It is what it is. Of course you should have a budget, large or small, and you should share that budget with the designer. We want you to find what you love and we can probably make it work, regardless. We want to sell to the girls who love our pieces.

-DON'T comment that you could make it yourself - You can't. And if you could, you wouldn't. And if you wanted to, you would have already. This is such an insult. Maybe you could do a better job. maybe you are amazing. Maybe you have a Masters' degree in the fine art of cutting tulle. Great. Keep it to yourself.

-DON'T forget that there are other brides in the salon - During a trunk show, all of the brides want the opportunity to meet the designer and the designer wants the opportunity to help all of the brides. They simply cannot devote all of their attention to one bride. Typically the designer has flown in from a long distance and wants to meet with as many brides as possible. Respect their time. Don't feel slighted when they are working with you at the same time as other girls. That's just how it goes.

Oh, I could go on for days! The bottom line is that a trunk show is the BEST time to purchase. It can be a bit intimidating and overwhelming, but it also the most lively and fun time to find your gown.
If you want to find the trunk show schedules for designers you love, simply go to their website and see where they will be and when.

B is for Baby Boy

No, not for me. No baby here. But I did have the pleasure of planning and hosting a baby shower last week for the amazing Natalie Moser of Natalie Moser Photography. She was (and is) a stunning mommy-to-be and I hope she enjoyed the party in her (and baby Moser's) honor. I love planning and designing weddings, but I must say that I think showers are my favorite! (Notice those milk jars?)

I was inspired by a Kate Spade design for these invites. I love the way they turned out!

One of my favorite baby shower gift ideas- a clothes line of outfits to match the colors of the shower. I sure hope Baby Moser loves blue and green as much as I do!

I was so lucky to have met fabulous pastry chef Melody from Sweet and Saucy. She actually came to my house to teach me how to make and decorate these cookies. Just one more things to add to my bag of tricks! (Though if I have to make more than 5 I am definitely hiring her!!!

I love using the baby food jars as the place card holders and what baby shower would be complete without those baby clothes pins?!

I have resorted to making cupcakes lately for the parties I throw as they are sooo easy to decorate.

Orange Coast Weddings Launch Party

Last week was ridiculously busy and I have many posts to share, I promise. I have many projects in the works right now which I am quite excited about (unfortunately they have cut down on my blogging time, but I'll work it all out!).

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the launch of Orange Coast Weddings Magazine from the publishers of Los Angeles Weddings. I am quite excited about this magazine as it focuses on real weddings that have taken place locally. There is just something about a magazine that shows real brides and real weddings.

All of the vendors involved were amazing and the most impressive element of all was truly the decor, executed by the always impressive Square Root. Once again, my photography skills do not do the event justice. I was more focused on having a good time than on snapping photos.

On a milk mission

I'm on a milk bottle mission this week. You'll see why next week. Let's just say this mission is anything but swift (or cheap!). With a price tag of nearly $5 for a quart of milk and a CA redemption value of an additional $1.25, this non-milk drinker has been practically "pouring money down the drain". Fortunately I already had quite a collection- just not quite large enough to fulfill my vision! *And yes, I realize I could have gotten these at a flea market for about a quarter a piece, but I don't have the pleasure of free time to hang out at flea markets these days!

With it coming so early this year, I certainly hope the weather will hold for the festivities. With a wedding, a shower, a birthday, and a trunk show in Florida all next month, I am going to need all the inspiration I can get to make the Easter table something memorable.

Lost seems to be the art of the hand written letter or invitation. These days it is just so simple to quickly send an email or a text when we have something to say. Formal correspondence may soon be only a distant memory. But there is a solution (OK, well sort of). Somewhere between the ease and convenience of the virtual world and the formailty and elloquence of the hand written world lies The Bureau of Communictaion (found via How About Orange). Just try it. You'll love it. I would send one of these quasi-formal correspondences to each and everyone of you if I could. But I can't. So consider this a personally addressed letter to you, and only you. **No, I DO NOT believe this is in any way acceptable in lieu of a formal wedding invitation, but it most definitely would be a fun alternative to an engagement announcement or party.

Rain, rain

I love the rain. I suppose that is a pretty good thing considering the near record-breaking downpours we have had in the last few days. Weather update aside, all this rain of course made me think of the no doubt incredibly anxious brides who must have had crossed every finger and cashed in every, "please God, just this one time..." on Saturday afternoon when it miraculously stayed dry for a good four hours or so. Had they not been so lucky, they of course could still have arrived in style thanks to Bella Umbrella, an umbrella rental company out of, where else, Seattle. I swear, you can rent anything. And these are so cute you might just pray for rain on your wedding day. But I doubt it.

OK, I'm not usually one to show off, but I just have to share my new favorite thing. Yesterday I received a most special gift from a friend and it is just so fabulous I must share. It always amazes me when someone knows me so well they can choose something that I've had my eye on without even knowing it.

This blog is all about celebrations and special occasions, no matter how big or small. It seems as though sometimes we get so wrapped up in the day to day that we forget to celebrate all of the seemingly small events that make life special. I, on the other hand, am always looking for a reason to pause and reflect on (and, of course celebrate!) all of the wonderful things that have brought me to where I am in today. Saturday marked our "7 years since our first date" anniversary so we took advantage of the sunny day and dusted off our bikes for the first time since Summer. (Who cares that we actually "celebrated" on Sunday, we were both too busy on Saturday!) After a quick stop for air, we were on our way to Frosted Cupcakery, a delectable little cupcake shop down by the beach. Gabe's friend Stacia opened Frosted with her mom in Belmont Shore a few years ago (yes, before Sprinkles was "Sprinkles") and has had a loyal following ever since. Though I feel the novelty of the cupcake cake has begun to wear its welcome in the wedding world, there is yet to be a more practical or charming way to treat your guests for a shower or birthday party. I, on the other hand, need no better excuse to treat myself to unnecessary calories than a sunny Sunday afternoon!

Admit it, either you have said it or you plan on saying it sometime in the near future. We brides seem to think that it is our matrimonial duty to find the perfect bridesmaid dress that is not only comfortable, attractive, and affordable, but that can also be worn again. Perhaps it puts our minds at ease to know that although we just asked our very best friends to fork over a small fortune for a dress, at the very least they will be delighted to know they can wear it again.
No doubt you searched and, if you are anything like me, ended up with something not likely to make an appearance ever again. It really is quite a difficult task and, quite frankly, sometimes you just want your bridal party to look, well, bridal. However, there are always those brides that are cause for envy. You know the ones - every aspect of the wedding is perfectly unique and their girls' attire is no exception. Enter Anthropologie (of course). They have so many fabulous dresses that work so well for a daytime or even a more casual evening wedding. Of course it ultimately depends on the style and the formality of the event, but I love the dresses below. Hey, if you are looking for a formal bridesmaid dress that they can also wear again, ask yourself this, when was the last time you donned a formal evening gown for a night on the town? Uh-huh, I thought so.

Calligraphy envy

I just sent off a bunch of envelopes to be addressed for a bride by Laura Hooper. I can't wait to see the finished product!
Calligraphy is such an amazing art form. I took my first calligraphy class about 5 years ago and am still learning. An innate talent it is not! Although I have had the opportunity to calligraph quite a number of wedding invitations, I can honestly say they pale in comparison to the work of a professional such as Laura.
Brides, trust me on this one. If there is any way, you simply must have your envelopes addressed by hand and they must be beautiful! The quality is unmistakable and the impression is lasting. If you have ever received an invitation addressed in ball point pen in crooked, uncentered lines, you know what I am talking about.

My creativity and excitement over what I do has grown exponentially due to this little blog and all of the places to which it has connected me. I look forward to the year ahead and to all of the adventures it may bring. I am WAY late in responding to this tag, but somehow I have completely lost myself in peppermint mochas and Christmas carols. With a minute to spare and most of my gifts already wrapped, I finally have the time to play along. Unfortunately I am positive that everyone else has already been tagged (um, like 2 weeks ago when I was supposed to play along!), so I will just do a "pretend tag" for anyone who wants to participate. I was so graciously tagged by Lucky Designs (who I LOVE, by the way!) and she will probably never let me join in any games again as I am clearly not a "rules" kind of girl. :)

Every boy I ever dated (including the one I married) has been a lefty. Weird, huh? I am not a lefty and, quite frankly, I find it rather annoying that we actually have to pay attention to who sits where in the booth at a restaurant, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education/Spanish and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration.
I can't swim. I have lived at the beach my whole life and refuse to get in the ocean. As I never intend to be in a situation where I am on a boat that capsizes, I think I'll be OK.
I tried out for, and received a callback for, The Apprentice:Martha Stewart. Obviously it didn't work out, but it was a blast.
When I get annoyed with someone I like to use big words with them. Especially with my husband. He hates that.
My very first concert was U2-Zooropa. I was 15, had front row seats and touched Bono repeatedly. It was a truly surreal experience.
In college I pierced my eyebrow without telling my parents. When I came home for a visit, you would have thought I had committed a violent crime. The disappointment was much worse than the pain and, needless, to say, parental approval prevailed. It came out very shortly thereafter. I still have the scar to remind me of what a dork I was.

What, seven already? But I had about 12 more things to share. Next time, perhaps.

I just finished mailing the last of the invites for our Holiday Open House. Next on the list: picking up the Christmas cards from the printer and mailing them off. (With all the money I've spent on stamps this week, I could have bought at least two more gifts!)

On the ninth day of Christmas

...my Advent calendar said to me, "buy mistletoe and kiss". A simple enough task, I thought. That was until I drove to NINE different stores in search of it. I was a woman on a mission. From the first stop, the Farmers' Market, where I was told, "oh no, it is too early for mistletoe" (huh?) to the Home Depot where I was told, "we ran out of that last week", to the drugstore where I was told, "oh, we just sold the last one", it seemed that with every place came deeper disappointment. "We'll just switch it for another day", said Gabe. "Unacceptable" was my reply (I mean, seriously, you can't just go "switching" activities on an advent calendar. Can you?). And so it was that we had the brilliant idea of going to the Christmas tree lot (duh, right?) where we spent $3 on this quite pathetic little bunch that will probably die by tomorrow. And kiss we did. It was lovely.

Just a taste

The wedding I had this Saturday could not have been more fabulous and I am happy to say that I have in my hot little hands (OK, in my hot little hard drive) a couple of preliminary images from the oh-so-talented Leigh Miller. Details were key at this wedding, so here is just a taste of how it all came together. Much more to come in a couple of weeks.

Yes, this is how I am dressed before the wedding. You try hanging things in trees and from doorways in your skinny jeans.

Remember all those circles I was doing the calligraphy on? Here's the finished product. I wrote the words "love", "joy", and "welcome" in English, French, and Dutch. Oh, and those strands of orchids? Let's just say that best be left to a professional florist. If I never string another flower on a line, it will be too soon!

Happy Chic at Barnes and Noble

While out for an after-dinner Barnes and Noble stop (one of my favorite Friday night activities) I came across the new Jonathan Adler line designed exclusively for the store. Being quite an admirer of Jonathan Adler (we did get married at The Parker, after all!) I was happy to see him receiving such great exposure. A bit too commercial? Maybe. But I can't say I'd turn down a deal with a major retailer, either.

How can it be that the extra long weekend has already come and gone and yet I still have not caught myself up? I have Erin Cole's wedding this weekend and I am so happy to have finally finished the programs, the menus, the favor tags, and the place cards. I'm still working on all of the hand calligraphy for the circles in the first picture (I'll show you the end result after the wedding, and no, they are not table names!). I only have about 20 more to go! Here's a sneak peak. Now, back to work! I have to finish some last minute printing and handwriting!

I love discovering local independent paper and sationery shops. I recently came across Cotton Idea Studio, a new boutique shop located in Laguna Beach specializing in all manners of fine paperie. In addition to their own line of custom cards and invitations, this little shop also carries all of my favorite paper and small gift lines including Egg Press, Snow & Graham, Pikku, Hable Construction, Page, Paper + Cup, Mr. Boddington, Night Owl, Hello Lucky and Little Tree Press. Though having just opened their doors, I am sure this will very quickly become a most favorite shop of the Orange County paper-obsessed.

J. Crew love

It's been a while since I have actually opened one of the 12 J. Crew catalogs I seem to receive every month before carting it off to the recycling bin. It's not that I don't want to take a peek, it's just that I don't like being tempted to spend money on things I really don't need (the last time I did look, I fell in love with $135 clutch that, quite frankly, I just can't justify when I am supposed to buying for others!). I have always liked J. Crew, but to be quite honest, their style is at times just a bit to preppy for my taste. Lately, however, I have fallen back in love. I have to say that their bridesmaids' dresses continually amaze me. From the very first season, around the time I was engaged, until now, they just get better and better. I opened that catalog today and just look what I found! Now the dress has been out for a few months, but with that belt?! Yes, yes, yes! I LOVE it! Oh, and it's on sale (not mentioned in the catalog, but it is on line!!!)

(What I don't love? That this picture is not on line and neither are the Nina and Pia dresses featured on page 97 0f the catalog even though they are on the "Weddings" intro page! --or maybe they are and I just was to impatient to find them!)

NY Market Highlight : Rivini

Sorry about the spotty posts, it has been a busy few weeks chock-full of deadlines and drama. With the holiday season already here, free time seems to be somewhat of a thing of the past.

Rivini is one of my absolute favorite designers. Period. I have had the pleasure of knowing Rita for a few years now and she is even more incredible than her designs. I am very excited to be working with her at an upcoming November 16-17 Rivini Trunk Show at Erin Cole. Anytime the designer comes to a trunk show is special, but when the designer is as fun loving, personable and kind as Rita is, it's a guaranteed great time.

This year's line is unbelieveable. The gowns are simply stunning. Not only is there a lovely array of slightly more traditional gowns with A-line cuts and beaded embellishments, but there are also a number of more couture, highly stylized gowns from which to choose. I simply cannot say enough and these pictures by no means do the gowns justice. You just have to trust me and make an effort to see these gowns. Oh, and that short one at the end- get out! I can see it now-hip couple, intimate wedding, cage veil, feathers, ooohhh how perfect!

NY Market Highlight : Judd Waddell

If you are not familiar with Judd Waddell, you should be. Not only is he one of the most hysterical designers I have worked with over the years, but he makes simply beautiful gowns. This year's line is no different. I have always defined a "Judd" bride as a girl who wants a classic gown with a slightly understated modern twist. His designs are never over the top or outrageous, rather they have clean lines, classic details and beautiful silhouettes.

NY Market Highlight : Meeting Darcy Miller

So I missed Martha by 5 MINUTES!!! Unbelievable! The Martha Stewart Party is always THE event during Market and it is a who's who of the bridal world. Who cares who's who- I wanted to meet Martha! By all accounts she looked fabulous and was very friendly. Not all was in vain, however. I did meet and chat with Darcy Miller (MS Weddings) and Bee Kim (Wedding Bee) about blogging in the bridal world. I had met Darcy once before in the past, but was once again impressed by her unpretentious demeanor and most gracious personality. Though not Martha, I felt amazingly fortunate to be able to meet and speak about my little blog with such an influential woman.

I've never been one for Halloween. Sure, I would don a costume occasionally, but I could never quite get into the over the top decorating and the "ghoulish" spirit of it all. This year was different, though. This year I looked at Halloween as more of a welcome to Fall and a true beginning to the holiday festivities. It seemed that everywhere I turned, I was inspired by the limitless number of fantastic entertaining ideas. What else could I do but host a Halloween dinner party? No costumes or bloody monsters, just great food, witty conversation, and a hysterical game of Cranium (for more on this, visit my other blog- you won't be sorry!). Do I sense a new tradition for the Palmers?

It's good to be home

I just got back from the New York Bridal Market with Erin Cole and cannot wait to share the highlights in the coming days. As always, there was a ton of work to be done, but the experience is always well worth the effort. The lines for Spring are going to blow you away! Oh, how I wish I had more time to post! I am simply too tired and am having a hard time getting back into the swing of things. All said, it is great to be back, even if flying in last night looked as if we were flying straight into the fiery depths of Hell.

My wedding in Brides magazine!

OK, I may be exaggerating just a tad, but a photo from my wedding will be featured in the November/December issue of Brides! Granted, I'm not even in the photo and it may end up only being about a half inch in size on page 562 after all of the advertisements, but I may as well have made the cover!

The photo was one of a few taken by my matron of honor and amazing photgrapher, Natalie Moser. Although she was not shooting the entire wedding (she was a little preoccupied stuffing favor boxes and tying programs!), I was so happy that she was able to capture a few of my favorite pre-ceremony images. I am very excited for her to have won the 2007 Brides Magazine/WPJA Photography Contest (read more about the judges' comments here) and to appear in such a fabulous publication. This is a great honor and I'm sure just one of many more to come!

I remember this moment so vividly. The music had just begun and we were taking turns sneaking peaks as the guests were entering the ceremony site. My flower girls were restless and clearly ready to "get it over with"! The anticipation was incredible!

Is it wrong to love something as simple as a basket? While visiting Pretty Little Things I was reminded of one of my absolute favorite things, the collapsible basket. OK, it doesn't really collapse all that easily because of the side supports, but you will be using it so much you will never need to collapse it! It appears that Sur La Table has recently added these to their offerings, but I first found these a couple years ago through Garnet Hill (they're a couple of dollars cheaper here, too!). Yeah, Garnet Hill of all places! Well, I loved them so much I bought one for each of my bridesmaids. Since then, I have convinced everyone I know to buy one of these. You can use them for anything. I use mine for the beach, for hauling all of my things when planning a wedding, for the farmer's market, for taking things from my car to the house, everything! I personally prefer the solid colors, but the prints can be fun as well. Trust me, buy one of these. You will not be disappointed.

Haunted Mansion Inspiration

Inspiration can come from unexpected places. Case in point- I was at Disneyland this weekend and while in line for the Haunted Mansion (which, by the way, is currently decorated as The Nightmare Before Christmas for Halloween), I couldn't help but notice the fabulous urn arrangements. I love the idea of using living plants for centerpieces and arrangements as opposed to cut flowers. I was also struck by the use of black with the autumn colors instead of the more predictable brown. Of course you would have to take care to not make it look too "halloweeny" (no, I don't believe this a word) and I would probably forgo the skulls and tombstones! (Forgive the not-so great photos, the people behind were not very accommodating of my holding up the line to take pictures!)

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I don't know of a single person who has not been affected in some way by breast cancer. Enjoying Life

When I started this blog a few months ago I had no idea how many people would actually read it or that I would actually develop friends out of it. One thing I promised myself was that I would keep this blog strictly as an outlet for inspiration for any and everything related to planning and organizing fabulous weddings and parties. Along the way, however, I found that no matter how hard you try, inevitably who you are seeps into everything you do. And, no matter how much of an effort is made, sometimes you just can't help but want people to better understand who you really are.
I've never been one for journaling- too time consuming, too much pressure, no spell check-but I have always envied those who have the discipline to do so. I have often wished, however, that I had written down something someone had said, taken better care to file away photos, copied down that recipe, or chronicled my feelings about or for any given experience. Well, now its my turn. I have started a new blog entitled ENJOYing : {my life} to do just that. In these last few months there have been so many great experiences to share, thoughts and ideas to express, and just things I wanted to say, but I didn't feel a blog I started for my business was the proper outlet. How lucky to have a birthday right before Halloween! This year we're throwing my nephew Sullivan a "Halloween Treats and Sweets" themed party for his second birthday. Just what all kids need, more candy.

It seems I am always being invited to shop-at-home parties where I end up spending a ton of money on items I probably would not have bought out on my own at the mall, but somehow feel obligated to purchase because I don't want to make the hostess feel bad! Enough! It's time for a party where everyone leaves with something they love. Apparently 1154 LILL Studios agrees. They host a make-your-own purse party where everyone designs their own custom bag. Very clever! With prices ranging from $26-$185, more than 20 different styles, and up to 300 different fabric options, there is definitely something for everyone and every budget. Guests simply choose a fabric and a purse style and it is mailed to their door within 3-4 weeks. Not that I don't love a good kitchenware party, but come on - do I really need anymore condiment holders?

If a party is not your thing and you just want a really cute custom bag for yourself, your friend, or your bridesmaids you can order directly from the website, too.

Do you ever come across a product and think to yourself, "this could possibly be the most perfect ___ ever?" That is exactly what I thought when I came across Start Here. I have been on a quest for the perfect day planner for a while now. I don't want the bulky, "I'm a very important person", I have way more compartments than I'll ever use kind of planner. No way, I want something simple with a full month at a glance format that I can throw in my purse and not feel wrecked with guilt if I only choose to use it once every other month. Enter the Linkable Notebook Planner. You mean I can actually have the day planner I've been imagining with clean pages and a sleek design without spending a fortune? A sweet treat

Mmmm. Gifts you can eat are my favorite gifts of all. Today I was lucky enough to receive a box of cookies from Sweets from Mrs. Z in Corona del Mar. This mail order cookie and treat company is incredible. I cannot even begin to describe the lemon cookies or, for that matter, the chocolate devils, the macaroons, the molasses, or the lime-pistachios. Yes, I quickly ripped into them and tried one of each. You would have done the same. What a lovely hostess, thank you, or just because (just because you are dying for some amazing cookies) gift. Just one more macaroon and then I'm back on a diet!

There's a chill in the air

Could it be? Could I have actually considered turning on my seat warmer this morning? Resisting the temptation I quickly realized that Fall is among us and will be in full swing before long. It seems the only maple tree on my street will soon begin it's transformation from green to orange and then red and I will forgo my current wardrobe of tank tops and shorts in exchange for jeans and scarves. So long, Summer!
